The area around the Statue of Unity is all set to become the first electric vehicles only zone of India. A day after the announcement of the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, it is said, by the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority – SOUADTGA, that they will develop the area into a zone free from vehicular pollution situated in Kevadia district of Gujarat.
On Sunday saying, the authority stated that the area will be transformed around the 182 meters tall Statue of Unity in Kevadia into an electric-vehicles-only zone in a phased manner.
Further, they have said that only electric vehicles will be allowed to use in the area under the authority. The buses will be available for tourists running on battery power instead of diesel.
To buy electric three-wheelers, the residents living around the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will get assistance according to the plan. SOUADTGA will also provide subsidies to buy electric vehicles.
The SOUADTGA further said that the beneficiary officers or employees have to pay an amount other than subsidy. The beneficiaries will get the facility to deduct the loan amount in easy installments from their salaries.
Moreover, SOUADTGA added that the beneficiaries must guarantee that they will not operate petrol or diesel vehicles in the area. Initially, about 50 E-rickshaws and E-cars TATA Tiago will be allowed to ply in the area under the authority, according to the agency e-cars rental will be available at the Statue of Unity.
As the drivers of these e-rickshaws, women will get preference. Free training will be conducted – by the Skill Development Center at Kevadia to the women drivers. They will get ready a separate set-up for the workshop and charging station.

It is asked – to the company operating the e-rickshaw in the area to develop the mobile app by the agency. Besides other information on tourist attractions such as the statue of unity eco camp, statue of unity tent city and many more, the mobile app will also mention the fares for these e-vehicles.
Let us bring this into knowledge that there are two hydroelectric power plants at Kevadia. These plants generate abundant environmentally friendly electricity. There are no polluting industries at Kevadia.
To reduce air and noise pollution and to add a feather to the charm of this unique tourist destination, this area is reserved only for electric vehicles.
The first electric vehicle tourism initiative of the country was launched in Kevadia. With a fare of 1500 rupees for two hours, the eco-friendly eBikes also got started at Kevadia.
