Overview

Ensconced in nature’s warmth, it is a sight that will delight your eyes. There is no need to travel to Japan, China, the United States of America, or Russia to see the tallest monument as India has the pride to build the tallest statue in the world.

Its height is 182 meters to match the seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, that is 182. The monument can stand up against winds of up to 180 km/hour and earthquakes measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale. It is at a depth of 10 km and within a radius of 12 km of the statue.

It is at least 4 meters taller than the Spring Temple in China. It is about twice the height of the Statue of Liberty. It is five times higher than Christ’s Statue in Rio de Janeiro!

Architectural Excellence

A total of 25,000 metric tonnes of steel were there to prepare the monument, including 18,500 tonnes of reinforced steel and 6,500 tonnes of structured steel.

Apart from this, 1,700 tonnes of bronze and 1,850 tonnes of bronze were consumed on the exterior.

The feet are not parallel. One foot is slightly ahead of the other, which denotes the nation is marching.

The sandals are 70 feet long. Small and big stitches have reflected the possibility of human error in preparing hand-made footwear.

Due to the copper and oxidation process, the Statue will turn bluish-green gradually. The feet have started turning green!

Viewing Gallery

There are two elevators that take visitors to the viewing Gallery. It is at the chest of the statue between the second and third buttons of the jacket.

You can relish the panoramic view across the reservoir, Sardar Sarovar Dam, Vindhyachal ranges, river Narmada and valley.

The visitors reach the height of 135 meters in just 36 seconds as the elevator’s speed is 4 meters per second.

Light and Sound Show

The laser show explores the journey of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and its role for one nation.

The statue becomes a canvas with laser lights, sound, graphics, and storytelling. The 30-minute show gives the viewers an unforgettable experience.

There are 51 high-resolution projectors used and fixed at a distance of 600 meters. The show started from 6.45 pm to 7.15 pm.

The projection technicality was done by Us based global visual technology, with a Germany-based laser show producer firm.

It uses a high brightness projector for the first time in India. The lenses and lasers work well in all weather conditions.

The Statue of Unity lights up with colorful laser beams. The show concludes with the National Anthem.

Why Kevadia

Kevadia and Narmada Valley symbolize Sardar Patel’s vision of modern India. Sardar Patel had brought up the idea of a dam across Narmada in 1946.

River Narmada is purifying and liberating. ‘Narmada Parikrama’ is considered a lifetime pilgrimage!

Local people used to say, “Jitne Kankar Utne Shankar”. It means every pebble in the river Narmada is a living manifestation of Lord Shiva.
